The Future Hudson Cliffs State Park Survey

Quarry Waters, LLC (an affiliate of Scenic Hudson) purchased 520 acres of land between Town of Ulster and City of Kingston, and many of you have already visited part of it - the Hudson River Brickyard Trail (Greenline/Empire State Trail). There is a vision for the remaining property. Scenic Hudson is in the process of transferring the property to NY State Parks/PIPC and is excited to engage the community in planning for the future, "Hudson Cliffs State Park". Help make sure there are plenty of biking and walking amenities – take the survey! Follow the link to get more information and complete the survey:

Future as a state park. Scenic Hudson, New York State Parks and the Palisades Interstate Park Commission (PIPC) are working together toward the goal of making this site the future Hudson Cliffs State Park, a first of its kind in the City of Kingston and Town of Ulster. Continued conversations and growing partnerships with local municipalities, organizations and community members are crucial to continue to create a vision for how the site can serve the public, what it will look like and how to provide access to some of the site’s most compelling features. Your input is tremendously valuable to us; community support and help with identifying the themes and values are important to achieving this goal.

The park site includes:

  • 520 acres located along the Hudson River (100 miles north of New York City)

  • 1.3 miles of river shoreline

  • Hudson River Brickyard Trail (section of the Empire State Trail/Kingston Greenline)

  • remains of historic industrial use

  • breathtaking vistas

  • over 17 unique habitats

  • quarried canyons that offer a look into geologic time

Quarry Waters, LLC (an affiliate of Scenic Hudson) purchased this remarkable landscape because of its outstanding potential to benefit residents of and visitors to the City of Kingston and Town of Ulster and, indeed, the entire Hudson Valley.

Scenic Hudson is in the process of transferring the property (*recently referred to as Quarry Waters) to NY State Parks/PIPC and is excited to engage the community in planning for the future Hudson Cliffs State Park.

Scenic Hudson. Scenic Hudson has a long history of protecting the inspiring scenic beauty of the Hudson River and its landscapes. Since 1963, it has been the leading champion of protecting the Hudson Valley’s outstanding visual and natural resources, starting with Storm King Mountain in the Hudson Highlands, and it has worked with communities to transform several former industrial sites into vibrant, ecologically restored riverfront parks. In the early 2000s, Scenic Hudson led a broad, citizen-based coalition that stopped construction of a massive, air-polluting cement plant along the City of Hudson waterfront. This park site now presents Scenic Hudson and the community with a new opportunity for significant transformational change.

New public access. Exciting progress to bring the public to the site is already being made. Scenic Hudson and the City of Kingston collaborated to complete the Hudson River Brickyard Trail (part of Governor Cuomo’s Empire State Trail and the Kingston Greenline), which connects the future park to Kingston, Ulster and beyond.
